Outcome breakdown
Stake not returned
At decimal odds 4.00, a $100 stake-not-returned bonus pays $300 cash if it wins. The face value itself is not a withdrawable cash stake.
Because the bonus costs you no new cash, only the hedge stake is counted as money spent. That is why the result can be positive in both outcomes.
Free bets and free plays
Sportsbooks use bonus bet, free bet and free play for similar offers, and the names can describe different rules. This works as a free bet hedge calculator whenever the face value is not returned and the winnings are paid in cash.
Check the terms of your promotion before you use the figures. If the stake is returned, or the winnings are paid as more bonus credit, the result does not apply.
A refund offer is a different model
A promotion described as risk-free may refund a losing qualifying bet in bonus credit. That credit is not cash. Qualifying-bet costs and future conversion are outside this calculation.
To hedge the qualifying bet itself, use the risk-free bet hedge calculator. Once a refund has been issued as a stake-not-returned bonus, you can enter that bonus here.
Worked example
- A $100 bonus bet at +300 (decimal 4.00) pays $300 cash if it wins.
- The cash hedge is +150 (decimal 2.50). $300 ÷ 2.50 = $120 hedge stake.
- Bonus wins: $300 − $120 = $180. Hedge wins: $120 × 1.50 = $180. New cash required: $120.
Common questions
No. A hedge can equalize a loss, and prices, fees or settlement differences can change the result.
No. The calculator does not connect to any sportsbook or exchange. Enter the prices you are actually offered and check them again before you place anything.
The bonus was already issued and its face value is never paid back to you in cash, so the only new cash at risk is the hedge stake.
