About Hedge Calculator

Free, independent calculators that show the stake math behind a hedge, with every assumption stated next to the result.

What Hedge Calculator offers

Hedge Calculator does one job: it works out how much to stake on the other side of a bet, and what each outcome is then worth after every cash stake is counted. There are eight calculators, each built for a different situation:

The guide to calculating a hedge bet explains the formula behind every one of them.

Who it is for

The site is written for adults of legal gambling age who already hold a bet or a promotion and want to check the numbers before deciding what to do. Amounts are in dollars, odds can be entered in American or decimal format, and the explanations use US sportsbook terms such as bonus bets and profit boosts.

It is also useful if you simply want to understand how hedging works. It is not a tipping service: it will not tell you what to bet, find bets for you or predict results.

How the content is produced

Every calculator and every explanation on the site starts from the same written formula, so the numbers in the text, the worked examples and the calculator itself always agree.

A stated model for each calculator

Each tool has a defined model: which outcomes it covers, what counts as cash staked and what it leaves out, such as fees, voids or pushes. Those limits are printed next to the calculator, not hidden in small print.

Exact arithmetic

The math uses exact fractions instead of floating-point numbers. Stakes are rounded to the cent, and every outcome is then recalculated from the rounded stake. When rounding leaves a one-cent difference between outcomes, the result shows it rather than hiding it.

Automated checks before every release

An automated test suite recalculates the worked examples and edge cases, including losses, break-even results, rounding and invalid input. A new version of the site is not published if any of those checks fails.

Plain explanations

Explanations are written to describe what a number means, not to persuade you to bet. When a hedge locks in a loss, the page says so.

Editorial principles

  • No tips or predictions. The site explains calculations and never recommends a bet.
  • No advertising or paid placements. There are no ads, sponsored posts or affiliate links. Sportsbook and exchange names such as Betfair or Smarkets only identify a use case.
  • Losses are shown as losses. A negative outcome is labeled as a modeled loss, in words as well as in color.
  • Assumptions come first. Every calculator lists what it assumes and what it does not cover.
  • Responsible gambling. A calculated result is never a reason to bet more. See the responsible gambling page.

Reviews and corrections

When a calculator or explanation changes, its formulas and worked examples are checked again with the same automated tests before the update goes live. The guide shows the date it was last updated.

If you think a result or a sentence is wrong, email contact@hedgecalculator.co with the page and the values you entered. Confirmed errors are corrected, and the corrected page is republished with its updated date.

Who runs the site
